CARDIAC ASSESSMENT - OVERVIEW

This module will provide information and practical techniques appropriate for cardiovascular assessment. Included are history taking, inspection, auscultation, percussion, and palpation techniques. You will be required to demonstrate appropriate landmarks, use of stethoscope and documentation skills.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this two-part module of cardiac assessment you will be able to:

  1. Conduct an overview examination of the head and neck, thorax and abdomen, and extremities
  2. Identify normal and abnormal findings in pulses and blood pressure
  3. Explain the significance of normal and abnormal pulse and blood pressure findings
  4. Conduct an assessment of the peripheral vascular system
  5. Demonstrate the use of a stethoscope, and methods of auscultation
  6. Recognize normal and abnormal heart sounds and the significance of these findings
